AOA, CMS PQRI Forum offers OD-specific guidance

On Sept. 24, the AOA will lead a Special Open Door Forum for the 2008 Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) participation by doctors of optometry. The 90-minute national conference call will feature leading CMS officials and will address optometry-specific questions and concerns.

The Forum is meant to encourage PQRI participation and provide simple steps that ODs and other physicians can use to collect and report quality data to be eligible for an incentive payment from the CMS. With the enactment of the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA), the PQRI bonus payment has been increased to 2 percent for 2009. The AOA encourages optometrists and/or a designated staff member, such as an office manager, to participate in this great opportunity to learn more about PQRI and how your practice can receive incentives for simply reporting the quality care that you already provide.
